Fees / 30 schools

What it costs to apply to 30 medical schools.

The 2027 AMCAS cycle primary fee for 30 schools is $1,572. Below is what sits on top of it, with every assumption shown.

01

The AMCAS fee

$1,572

Past 20 schools the base fee has shrunk to 11 percent of the $1,572 total, yet each school still adds $48 (3.1 percent of the total).

That is $180 for the first school and $48 for each of the other 29, about $52.40 per school on average.

AAMC calls this the 2027 AMCAS cycle: you apply in 2026 and start medical school in 2027. AAMC has not published fees for the 2028 AMCAS cycle (applying in spring 2027). These are the latest published figures, and this page will be updated when AAMC posts the new ones.

02

Secondary fees

Most schools send their own secondary application with its own fee. AAMC does not publish secondary fees, so this table uses three illustrative fee levels and assumes a secondary at every school. That is an upper bound, because not every school sends one.

Secondary fees if every school sends one
ScenarioTotal
30 secondaries at $50$1,500
30 secondaries at $100$3,000
30 secondaries at $150$4,500

At the middle level, secondaries total $3,000, which is 66 percent of primary plus secondary fees together.

03

Interview travel

These are the calculator defaults, not published prices: airfare $350, 1 hotel night at $150, meals $50 a day, ground transport $60, and $200 of attire once. That is $610 a trip.

Travel at the default trip cost
ScenarioTotal
3 in-person interviews$2,030
5 in-person interviews$3,250
8 in-person interviews$5,080

Virtual interviews cost nothing in travel, so the real number depends on how many invitations are in person.

04

Adding it up

One plausible total for 30 schools
PartAmount
AMCAS primary (published)$1,572
Secondaries at $100 each (assumption)$3,000
5 in-person interviews (assumption)$3,250
MCAT registration, one attempt (published)$360
Total$8,182

Only the AMCAS and MCAT lines are published fees ($1,932 together). The rest are assumptions you can change. Open the calculator with 30 schools filled in

05

Fee assistance and other services

A Fee Assistance Program award waives AMCAS fees for up to 20 schools (valued by AAMC at $1,092). At 30 schools, the 10 beyond that are charged $48 each, so you would still owe $480. AAMC's benefit list does not include secondary application fees.

The same 30 schools through AACOMAS (DO programs) would cost $1,938 in primary fees. A single TMDSAS application is a flat $235 for every Texas school you select. Applying to 30 schools through both AMCAS and AACOMAS is $3,510 in primary fees. See the AACOMAS vs AMCAS comparison and the Fee Assistance Program checker.
